Registering for Tax in Ireland
Your first step before you start work is to apply for your PPS No (Personal Public Services). In order to do this you must visit your local Social Welfare Office. You can call 1890 333 425 and they will inform you of the nearest Social Welfare Office to your residence.
Please note that their working hours are 9am - 12.30pm and 2pm - 4pm.
When you apply for your PPS no, you must bring Identification, your work permit and proof of your address with you. Your PPS No allows you to access benefits and public service information like Social Welfare and Public Healthcare.
It can take 5-10 working days to receive your PPS No (depending on the backlog) Once you receive your PPS No you will need to apply for your Certificate of Tax Free Allowance. This is done by filling out a 12A form. You can pick this up in the Social Welfare Office or by logging on to www.revenue.ie/forms/form12a.pdf
This form is filled out once you start working. You and your employer will both receive a copy. At this stage you will be taken off emergency tax. Depending on the time of year, it can take anything from 2-8 weeks before you receive your Certificate of Tax Free Allowance. To check on the status of your application, you may call the Tax Office on 1890 333 425.
Banking We transfer funds directly to your bank account on a back week basis. Your pay will be in your account at midnight every Thursday. Some Building Society accounts can experience a delay - please ask your consultant.
If you do not have a bank account in Ireland, you will need to open one so that you can receive your weekly pay. To open a bank account, you must bring Identification with you and proof of your address.
Please make sure that we have your bank details so that you are guaranteed to be paid every week.
